Literacy Program

"Each One Teach One"

The Adult Literacy Program at the Boca Raton Public Library is available for anyone over the age of 18 who wishes to enhance basic reading skills. The program is co-sponsored by the Boca Raton Literacy Advisory Council. Inc. Aspects of the program include basic reading, critical reading, and reading for comprehension. Writing skills are also included.

ADULT LEARNERS More than 22% of Palm Beach County is functionally illiterate. This means that this percentage is reading below eighth grade level. Do you know anyone who needs basic reading and writing instruction? If you have a friend, neighbor, or co-worker who has difficulty with reading and writing, help is available.

Call Joan-Marie Mueller at (561) 367-7020 for more information.

VOLUNTEERS Volunteer tutors are always needed for the Literacy Program. For a rewarding experience, try tutoring. Your commitment will be for 1-1/2 hours, two times a week, for at least nine months. You will be trained on the specific material your student will be using. Rewards of working with an adult learner cannot be measured.
